The Indonesia Marine Biogeochemistry Forum (IMBF) is organizing a webinar series entitled
"Mainstreaming Marine Biogeochemistry Research in Indonesia"
This session will focus on the phenomena of ocean acidification and deoxygenation, with presentations by:
Dr.rer.nat Suliskania Nurfitri
Faculty of Earth Science and Technology, Institut Teknologi Bandung
The Role of Upwelling in Marine Biogeochemistry
Khanittha Uthaipan, M.Sc.
Ph.D. Candidate in Marine Chemistry, Xiamen University, China
Coastal Hypoxia: Causes, Effects and Solutions
Opening remarks will be given by Prof. Dr. A'an Johan Wahyudi as the chairman of IMBF and will be moderated by Ita Wulandari, M.S.
More about the upcoming webinar
In this webinar session, we will explore the significant impact of upwelling – the process of bringing nutrient-rich deep waters to the surface – on the distribution of essential elements and its profound influence on the global carbon cycle. Understanding these dynamics is vital for predicting how our oceans will respond to future environmental changes. Following that, we will turn our attention to a critical challenge facing many coastal regions: Coastal hypoxia. We will explain alarming phenomenon of oxygen depletion in coastal areas, examining its underlying causes, the detrimental effects on marine life, and importantly, potential solutions.
Who is it for?
The webinar series was designed with researchers, academics (lecturers and students), as well as marine environment stakeholders in mind. But we warmly welcome anyone who wants to learn more about marine biogeochemistry research in Indonesia.
When and where?
Wednesday, 17 April 2025 from 10.00-11.30 Western Indonesian Time on Zoom Meeting and livestream on YouTube (no registration required).
