[7 February 2025] Utopia Net Zero Carbon Indonesia
Utopia Net Zero Carbon Indonesia
Organised by Climate Change Cluster of Doctrine UK, in collaboration with Energy, Environment, and Sustainability Cluster of Indonesian Scholars Forum (ISF).
OPEN FOR PUBLIC
Indonesia stands at a crossroads in defining its net zero carbon strategy. As a developing country rich in natural resources, the dilemma between environmental protection and economic growth becomes increasingly complex. In this discussion, we will delve into Indonesia’s carbon emissions from land-use change and fossil fuels, as well as the intricacies of carbon trading.
On one hand, Indonesia has immense potential to contribute to global climate mitigation through forest conservation and sustainable resource management. On the other, the country’s economic needs, energy security, and societal welfare demand the utilization of resources such as palm oil and coal. Policies like carbon trading and commitments to the Paris Agreement remain contentious, especially following the Indonesian government’s statement that the country need not commit to the agreement since wealthier nations like the U.S. have withdrawn.
Join us for an in-depth exploration of Indonesia’s struggle toward net zero carbon and the critical decisions that lie ahead.
