Indonesia recently has four new provinces in Papua: Central Papua, South Papua, Mountain Papua, and South-West Papua. The anticipated expansion aims to boost economic growth and improve the well-being of the population, eliciting diverse reactions from the local community. Some argue that this expansion may instead cause fragmentation and damage the identity of Papua, as well as lead to excessive exploitation of natural resources in the region.
