Theme: Envisioning the Future of ICT for the New Globalization

Background

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on human life globally. There is no return to normal, the new “normal” will have to be constructed on the ruins of our old lives, or we will find ourselves in a new barbarism whose signs are already clearly discernible. (Slavoj Žižek, 2020). Technological developments accompany humans in living life and being a solution during a pandemic. The dependence of people around the world has increased on digital technology. The impact of COVID is the development of digital connectivity trends that will affect the growth of the Information Technology market in the near future.

ICT is critical in the social fabric, especially during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Amid this turmoil, ICTs have played an essential role in facilitating safe assistance and treatment of affected populations. ICTs have also been shown to be crucial for strengthening long-term resilience to future pandemics and resolving secondary challenges in social distancing environments. In these challenging times, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has emerged as the primary means of solving the challenges posed by the pandemic and responding to new daily realities. ICT solutions are used for identification, isolation, contact tracing, and treatment.

Emerging a new kind of globalization featuring more inclusivity and innovation will eventually become a new trend in the post-pandemic era. The new globalization will drive further growth, such as the digital economy, smart manufacturing, cloud computing, 5G technology, new materials, and smart cities. Modern technologies such as big data analytics, Internet of things (IoT), AI, VR, and AR are useful for environmental situations, early detection, disease diagnosis, data analysis, risk mitigation of economic crises. Furthermore, this investment in technology will support industry and government for tech-savvy smart-living smart infrastructure and increase the use of online platforms, industrial automation and intelligent logistics.

Emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning (ML), 3D printing, IoT, and robotics are used in the pandemic. For example, AI and ML are used for mapping and tracking Covid cases in real-time. At the same time, 3D printing technology is also widely used in this situation to produce medical equipment.

International Conference of Computer and Informatics Engineering (IC2IE) is an annual conference that has been held since 2018. The 5th IC2IE is a forum for academics and practitioners to explore the future of ICT in the new era of globalization.
