The 14-th International Symposium on Modern Optics and Its Applications (ISMOA)

“Enhancing Quality Education and Research with Photonics”

1 – 4 August 2023, Bandung, Indonesia

The International Symposium on Modern Optics and Its Applications (ISMOA) is a meeting held by the Indonesian Optical Society (InOS). The 14th ISMOA or ISMOA 2023 is organized in collaboration with the Physics of Magnetism and Photonics Research Group of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Physics Department of Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), and Research Center for Photonics of National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) on 1-4 August 2023 in Bandung, Indonesia. The theme of this symposium is “Enhancing Quality Education and Sustainable Research with Photonics”. 

This meeting, like all its previous meetings, is aimed at providing a forum of scientific communication and interactions among regional scientists and distinguished scientists working in the rapidly growing field of modern optics and photonics, covering theoretical, computational, and experimental studies of optical/photonic fundamental phenomenon, devices, and materials.

The meeting is initiated by tutorial sessions on 1 August 2023 which is aimed to equip young scientists with sufficient background in order to attend the main meeting on 2 – 4 August 2023. A free Summer Course is also organized on 28 July – 1 August 2023 prior to the symposium to equip undergraduate and graduate students on knowledge of the fields of modern optics/photonics, which is designed to fit 2 credit units (2 CUs) of the Indonesian education system, hence possible for credit earning.

The main meeting on 2 – 4 August 2023 will consist of Plenary Sessions and Poster Presentations. The Plenary Sessions will consist of presentations from Invited Speakers and Contributed Speakers. The poster session will be initiated by a 3-minute preview of the presentation followed by poster promotion during the coffee break session, in which participants can interact with the poster presenter in a friendly informal environment.

The ISMOA 2023 will also feature The May-On Tjia Lecture, which will be delivered by Dr. Koo Hendrik Kurniawan, the Research Director at Maju Makmur Mandiri (MMM) Research Center, Indonesia, who will give a talk on Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy.
